2026 Window Rebates Ontario: What to Know and How to Apply?

Energy-efficient home improvements remain the leading trend among Canadian homeowners. They help create a healthier environment with improved performance, while also offering substantial financial benefits through different government rebate programs.

Home Renovation Savings™ Program

Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, in collaboration with the Ontario Government, have introduced the Home Renovation Savings Program. This initiative is designed to assist Ontarians in enhancing the energy efficiency and comfort of their homes.

The Ontario Home Renovation Savings program, which launched on January 28, 2025, provides homeowners with rebates of up to 30% (often summing several thousands of dollars) for eligible energy-efficient upgrades, including heat pumps, insulation, windows, doors, and solar panels. This initiative plans to invest $10.9 billion dollars towards energy efficiency over a 12-year period, marking the most significant investment of this nature in Canada’s history.

This program, offered through Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas, supports various fuel types, including electricity, gas, oil, propane, and wood.

How to get your rebates through Home Renovation Savings Program

1- Schedule an assessment

First, you need to start with an initial home energy assessment. Then, you will need to fill out a form to get a list of Service Organizations in your area (find this form in this link: https://www.homerenovationsavings.ca/with-assessment#section_2). After finding the Service Organization in your area, a registered energy advisor will assess your home and complete your home energy assessment.

2- Get a custom report

Review the upgrades recommended for your home by the energy advisor. If several upgrades are suggested, choose which ones are more apt for you and your home.

You must complete at least two energy-saving upgrades to qualify for the rebates. Keep in mind that this program offers additional rebates if you bundle at least three qualifying upgrades.

3- Have your preferred contractor complete the work

After choosing the qualifying upgrades for your home (at least two), you need to hire a contractor up to your discretion to complete the work.

4- Schedule a follow-up assessment

After upgrades are installed, you will need to complete a final assessment with the same registered energy advisor.

Once your registered energy advisor submits all necessary paperwork after follow-up home energy assessment, you can expect to receive your cheque by mail within 60 days.

The Home Renovation Savings Program offers homeowners the possibility to receive:

Summarizing:

The fundamental concept is straightforward: replacing outdated and inefficient windows and doors reduces energy consumption, resulting in cost savings and positive environmental impact, which supports sustainability initiatives.

Window and door grants can substantially reduce the upfront expenses associated with the replacement projects. Eligibility for these grants typically requires that both the property and the proposed products comply with established standards, such as ENERGY STAR® or equivalent certifications.

In addition, the installation process is a significant factor in determining eligibility. Engaging qualified local window contractor for professional installation ensures optimal product performance and compliance with the requirements for government rebates.

Please note: The Home Renovation Savings Program wants consumers to be aware of the scammers creating fake websites, promoting unauthorized rebate offers and impersonating participating contractors and approved service organizations. Do no share your personal information with unverified sources.
